Shannon Briggs, the girlfriend of the slain Memphis rapper Young Dolph (who is also known as Swae Lee), spoke out about the senseless murder of her boyfriend on Monday. Briggs said that she often questioned her own involvement in Young Dolph’s murder because, according to her, they had a volatile relationship that even included smashing pieces of furniture together and each other. As for the “consequences,” Briggs said, she and Young Dolph had worked on a plan where he would release a video in which he was to be pummeled with baseball bats for suggesting that Briggs was watching porn.
Briggs also pointed to a YouTube video of Young Dolph, which has nearly 4 million views. Young Dolph is seen taking a bathroom break and almost breaking down in tears, while Briggs is heard laughing in the background. “We just had a relationship that was raw and realistic because of the over the top situations we had with each other,” Briggs told the Commercial Appeal. “You know, there were times when I was like, ‘Man I can’t believe you’re doing this to me’ and other times when I was like, ‘Man that’s hilarious.’ I can’t believe that he’s even with me.” Briggs noted that she felt “sad, upset, relieved, angry, hurt, heartbroken” at what had happened. “I’m glad he’s gone,” she said. “I had a life that I never had with him.”
Young Dolph’s murder, according to the Memphis Police Department, occurred on February 9 after he left a recording studio in the area with two other people. Details of the shooting, as reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, were vague at first, but an investigation led to the arrest of one suspect and the discovery of several bullets inside Young Dolph’s car. One bullet was still lodged in the car, police reported on February 14.
